Ang Maya (The "Maya" Bird)

In Philippines, we call the brown sparrow, "Maya". This beautiful song is about how the Maya can fly so quickly which makes it so hard to catch. 

This is one of my favourite Filipino kundimans, and I've decided to upload it today upon the request of a reader. Apologies for the photocopy quality from the ancient times...Nevertheless, it is still readable. Enjoy the song! Scroll to the bottom of this post to download the piece.

Happy New Year everyone! Thank you for the comments and requests via the blog and through e-mail.

It's been a while since my last post. I've promised myself that I would allot some time to searching for scores to post.

This one I found is perfect for the new year - Maligayang Bati by the Filipino composer, Francisco Buencamino, Sr. . Maligayang Bati literally means, "Joyful Greetings!" It is usually said as a birthday greeting in the Philippines! It's one of my favourite Filipino piano pieces.
